Let’s look at the top 55 this week for reasons which will soon become obvious!
Adele has spent her fourth week at the top with “Hello” and if she withstood this week’s onslaught from Justin Bieber then she could perhaps last another week too. Although consumers’ dollars may instead go toward purchasing her new album this week.
And what a chart attack from Justin Bieber in the past seven days – “Sorry” again sits at #2 but it is his new material which has made an impact. Five new tunes made their way into the top 55 this week while he also has “I’ll Show You” sitting at #20 on its third week in the chart. All the tunes are from his new album “Purpose” which also made a big impact on the album chart.
Apart from Bieber, the only newcomer to the top 10 was Shawn Mendes with “Stitches” up to #10 which is its highest chart position after nine weeks in.
The 11 other new tunes to actually debut inside the top 55 are:
#17 Guy Sebastian with “Black and Blue”
#19 The Amity Affliction with “Shine On”
#22 Justin Bieber with “The Feeling”
#30 Jess & Matt with “You’re The One That I Want”
#40 Justin Bieber with “Purpose”
#44 Troye Sivan with “Youth”
#45 Missy Elliott with “WTF (Where They From)” featuring Pharrell Williams
#49 Justin Bieber with “Mark My Words”
#52 Justin Bieber with “Children”
#54 Justin Bieber with “Company”
#55 Rob Thomas with “Hold On Forever”

Albums
A fascinating chess board of moves at the top again this week. Five new entries in the top 10, Ed Sheeran has forced his way back in and there are still spots for Taylor Swift and Michael Bublé…and Elvis.
The king has been dislodged by the princes of pop – Bieber and 1D.
In its third week on the chart, Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream” has slipped to #3.
Grabbing top spot is Justin Bieber who has more real estate this week on both charts than we have seen one artist grab for a long time. His new album “Purpose” has taken spot spot, beating British pop royalty One Direction to #1. “Purpose” is Bieber’s fourth album and his third #1 in Australia.
The UK quartet saw their “Made In The A.M.” land at #2 in its first week.
Ed Sheeran’s “X” is back in the top 10 in a big way, lifting from #14 to #4 in its 74th chart week.
The three other top 10 arrivals this week are:
#5 Kerser with “Next Step”
#7 Kylie Minogue with “Kylie Christmas”
#9 Conrad Sewell with “All I Know”
Seven other new albums crashed the top 50 this week:
#15 Jeff Lynne’s ELO with “Alone In The Universe”
#27 Slim Dusty with “The Den Tapes”
#29 Dream On Dreamer with “Songs of Soulitude”
#36 Chris Young with “I’m Comin’ Over”
#39 Andrieu Rieu, Johann Strauss Orchestra with “Roman Holiday”
#40 Jackie Onassis with “Pristine Alley”
#43 Logic with “The Incredible True Story”
