After more than a three-decade absence, WWE returns to the UK with the first significant stadium event since the SummerSlam in 1992, Clash at The Castle. Promising hard-hitting action, the face-off between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns, is a clash sure to promise a battle between two of wrestling’s dominant forces.
McIntyre said of the showdown that fans can expect “one of the biggest shows in history, not just WWE history… this is something I’ve been pushing for a long time.”
Taking place at the National Stadium of Wales – Principality Stadium – the arena is located in the heart of Cardiff ad has hosted some of the largest sporting events in the world, including The Rugby World Cup, FA Cup finals, 2012 Olympic Games football and the Champions League Final.
WWE superstar Alexa Bliss shared her thoughts on the current state of WWE, particularly YouTuber turned WWE powerhouse, Logan Paul. Asked who would be the next great celebrity addition to WWE, Bliss said: “I feel like they have to have a big personality. We’ve already had some stuff with Cardi B but I think she would be a really good WWE Superstar.”
SummerSlam ‘92 was hosted at Wembley Stadium in London, on August 29 1992. It was the first capstone event hosted by WWE outside of North America. It featured a six-man Tag Team match, a World Tag Team match and a WWE Championship match.
Asked what fans can expect from Clash at The Castle, Bliss said: “A lot of fun, hard-hitting action, and a great card. There are lots of good stories right now that are going to be leading to Clash at The Castle, especially with our new creative direction. It should be fun.”
WWE’s Clash at The Castle will be broadcast live from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales to Australian screens on Main Event, Kayo and the WWE Network on Sunday, September 4 at 3 am AEST.
