EXCLUSIVE: Why Jennifer Coolidge's only Australian audio interview went to Mitch Churi
Mitch Churi reveals how his podcast secured Jennifer Coolidge's only Australian audio interview during her visit here.

Independent podcaster Mitch Churi says landing Jennifer Coolidge's only Australian audio interview wasn't the result of months of pitching. In fact, he says his team "did nothing."
Instead, Audible approached The Mitch Churi Chat Show directly, handing the independent creator an exclusive that, according to Churi, every major Australian radio network and podcast wanted.
The opportunity arrived late on a Monday afternoon while Coolidge was in Australia promoting Audible.
"Step one, we did nothing.
"They came to us."
Churi said the email landed just before 6pm with a simple message: "Hi Mitch, we love the podcast. We want Jennifer to be with you."
He said the actor had already completed television interviews with programs including The Morning Show and Sunrise, leaving just one audio interview available, which Audible wanted his show to host.

After scrambling to prepare questions and secure approvals, Churi met the Emmy Award-winning actor at Harris Farm in Marrickville for what he describes as a career-defining interview.
'We think what you are doing is the future'
For Churi, however, the interview itself wasn't the biggest story.
He said representatives told him Australia's biggest radio networks, major podcasts and other established media brands had all been chasing access to Coolidge during her visit.
Despite that, he said his independent podcast was selected.
"We've chosen you. We want you because we think what you are doing is the future."
The moment, Churi said, validated the vision he had for his show when it launched just 10 months ago.
He believes Australia has been missing a genuine celebrity chat show format, pointing to The Graham Norton Show as the benchmark, and said his team deliberately set out to fill that gap.
"And advice that I live by is if you build it, they will come," he said.
"And we built this show, and we got Jennifer Coolidge in our inbox."
A changing celebrity playbook
Churi believes the exclusive reflects a broader shift in the publicity landscape.
He argues that where Hollywood stars once prioritised appearances on Australia's biggest radio shows and television programs, many of those outlets no longer exist or don't hold the same appeal.
Instead, studios, publicists and talent managers are increasingly looking to creator-led shows with engaged audiences.
"They would go on a show like Rove. They'd go on The Project. Now those shows don't exist," Churi said.
"And these companies and these agents and managers are realising that a better use of their time is on a show like mine or an independent podcast."
For Churi, the Jennifer Coolidge booking represents more than a single interview. He believes it's "the canary in the coal mine" for how celebrity publicity strategies are evolving in Australia.
