The ABC, Seven, Nine, and 10 all aired the funeral of Prince Phillip last night with Seven coming out on top:
Seven– 430,000
Nine– 212,000 (plus a Nine News special with 275,000)
10– 147,000
ABC– 137,000 (plus an ABC News special with 172,000)
In the lead up to the funeral coverage Nine aired Downton Abbey (235,000), Seven aired the AFL (472,000) and The Queen (85,000), 10 aired a repeat of Ambulance Australia (138,00), while the ABC aired The Durrells (282,000) followed by Finding Alice (189,000) and an encore of Harrow (76,000).
This strong lead-in from the AFL potentially helped Seven secure the strongest numbers for the funeral coverage last night.
Another contributing factor to Seven’s win last night was the coverage of the AFLW grand final which saw the Brisbane Lions defeat the Adelaide Crows 38-20. A South Australian crowd of 22,934 was in attendance as 287,000 (+80,000 regional) watched from home as Brisbane became the first Queensland team to win the AFLW title.
