Nine has led the way in another Q1 TV ratings week off the back of ratings winning performances from Married at First Sight. The only night the reality program was challenged was Monday when 10’s Oprah’s interview with Harry and Meghan stole away viewers.
Nine
Three of the week’s four Married at First Sight episodes were close to or better than 950,000. The odd one out was the Monday episode where the clash with the Oprah Winfrey special saw the MAFS audience dip to 798,000. Also performing well for Nine were A Current Affair and 60 Minutes with both making it to 700,000 which was a lift of close to 50,000 week-on-week for each.
The second episode of Amazing Grace was on 419,000 after launching with 504,000 a week ago.
The NRL season started on Thursday night with 482,000 watching the first match. Nine then had a crowd of 408,000 tuning in for the Friday night game.
Seven’s soft TV ratings
The broadcaster had hoped to improve on its poor 2020 Q1 but that hasn’t happened with both Holey Moley and then Ultimate Tag failing to fire in the TV ratings. Apart from the 6pm news, Seven’s only program to make half a million only just got there – Home and Away with 509,000.
Ultimate Tag did 447,000, 260,000 and 276,000 across the week. It could be harder to find in the TV guide this week.
10’s better TV ratings
The week belonged to Oprah and Megan and Harry with the Monday night special pulling 1.366m metro viewers. That was enough to make it the #1 show for the TV ratings week. It became the most-watched TV show of the year and one of just a handful of programs to make it over 1m. It was the second time 10 had topped the weekly rankings in 2021 – the other show to claim that title was the launch episode of I’m a Celebrity in Week 2.
10’s next best was Gogglebox on 596,000, enough for it to sneak into the top 20 for the week at #20. Only two episodes of The Amazing Race this week with audiences of 479,000 (Tuesday) and 461,000 (Sunday). The Cube just made it to 400,000 which was up on ep 2’s 350,000, but down on the launch crowd of 567,000.
ABC
Five programs found a spot in the top 20 for the week with audiences over 600,000 – ABC News (M-F), Four Corners, Hard Quiz, Death in Paradise and ABC News Sunday. Ranking at #21 for the week was 7.30 on 561,000.
SBS
A repeat episode of Great Australian Railway Journeys performed strongest with 237,000. Nearly equalling that number was the launch of the second season of Australia in Colour on 225,000.
