Foxtel and Lingo pictures have announced that the second season of hit comedy Upright has commenced production.
The show stars musician and comedian Tim Minchin and rising Australian star Milly Alcock as the misfit duo Lucky and Meg. The first season of the show documents them as they attempt to transport a piano across the Australian outback.
Season two of Upright follows the pair as they embark on another uniquely Australian road trip, this time heading towards Far North Queensland.
Multi-award-winning actor, writer and director Queensland local Mirra Foulkes will be joining the creative team. Foulkes has written and directed three award-winning short films as well as a movie. She said she is excited about the partnership with Foxtel.
“I am very happy to be returning to Queensland to direct the second season of Upright. It’s great to be involved in this wonderful local series and to be working with an exceptional Queensland crew, the glorious Milly Alcock and Tim Minchin, and our passionate partners at Foxtel.”
“We are looking forward to bringing Lucky and Meg’s next road trip adventure to the screen in what promises to be another epic Australian adventure full of humour and heart”, executive director of Television at Foxtel, Brain Walsh said. “The team at Lingo pictures have once again put together a fantastic and dedicated team of creatives to embark on this next journey. We are thrilled to have Mirrah at the Helm to bring Lucky and Meg’s story to life.”
The series will have eight episodes and will take viewers on a journey from Brisbane to the far North, with the ultimate backdrop of the scenery and diverse landscapes of Queensland. A major production investment from Screen Australia, the series was made possible through association with Screen Queensland and support from Screen NSW and Cutting Edge.
Screen Queensland CEO Kylie Munnich spoke of her delight in welcoming the cast and crew to Queensland. “Queenslander Mirrah Foulkes is returning home to direct this next chapter in Lucky and Megs travels. Upright 2 will be an irresistible mix of local talent at a time when our state’s screen industry is thriving.” She said.
The show, produced by Lingo Pictures for Foxtel and Sky UK, will be produced by Jason Stephens, Meg O’Connell and Helen Bowden.
The complete first season of Upright is available to watch On Demand on Foxtel.
