Nine has had one of the most dominant wins in years with an astounding 61.8% primary share and 68.1% network share, as the broadcaster has well and truly blown away its competition. And it’s all thanks to the Australian Open.
Ash Barty winning a historic Australian Open women’s title brought in an average of 2.581m viewers, which was eclipsed further by the presentation of her trophy which had 2.838m tuning in. These would have registered as the second and fourth highest-ranking segments of 2021 with only the AFL grand final bringing in more viewers.

The Australian Open wasn’t done with headline acts, however, as the men’s doubles final had 1.725m viewers as Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis defeated Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell.
It was a quiet night for the rest of the broadcasters, as the gravity of Nine’s huge share created some weird results (see SBS having a bigger primary share than 10).
Seven aired the Women’s Ashes during the day with the first Test’s third day having a high segment of 150,000 viewers, which came at lunch. In primetime Seven aired Border Security: Australia’s Front Line (375,000), before Fast & Furious 6 had 138,000 viewers.
On 10, the A-League had 42,000 viewers as Western United took on Melbourne City. Western United won 1-0.
On the ABC, Death in Paradise had 368,000 viewers before All Creatures Great and Small had 282,000.
The top non-news program on SBS was Tony Robinson’s Forgotten War Stories with 84,000 viewers.
