Nine has ended Seven’s recent hot streak on Sunday nights after winning a tight battle in the overnight ratings. Last night, Nine had a winning share in both primary channel share (25.2%) and network share (33.4%). The two biggest driving forces in this change in fortunes on Sunday nights was the combo of Lego Masters (664,000) and the leader’s debate presented by 60 Minutes (641,000).
“The Great Debate achieved a phenomenal result on Channel Nine and 9Now easily winning its time slot and securing a Total TV number of 950,000. It was in the Top 5 programs of the night and was No.1 in Sydney with demographics the leaders are trying to engage with. I congratulate the team here at Nine who put together an outstanding panel allowing the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader to put their case as voting opens today,” said Darren Wick, Nine’s director of news & current affairs.
Lego Masters has continued to dominate the key demographics after finishing #1 in each demo. The episode saw the six teams competing in two challenges, High Wire and Secret City, with Paul and Trent going home.
Earlier in the day for Nine, the broadcaster’s afternoon NRL coverage had 244,000 viewers as The Melbourne Storm easily dispatched the St George Illawarra Dragons.
On Seven, The Voice was the top non-news program of the night with 766,000 viewers as the show started the battle rounds. The episode saw team Guy and Team Keith take the stage. The ratings were steady compared to last week’s 768,000.
7News Spotlight then followed with 383,000 tuning in for The Fame Game. The special investigation featured a cavalcade of legends including Tony Barber, Rowena Wallace, Greg Evans, and Mat Stevenson joining some of the most well-known reality stars such as Brynne Edelsten, Ajay Rochester, Melissa Rawson, and Bryce Ruthven, to share their highs and lows of celebrity life.
On 10, The Sunday Project had 206,000 (6:30pm) and 307,000 (7:00pm) as the show covered the federal election candidates making their Mother’s Day pitches to women and families.
MasterChef Australia was the top program for the broadcaster with 452,000, a decrease on last week’s 460,000 viewers. The episode saw John Carasig become the first favourite eliminated from the series when he cracked under the pressure of the egg challenge after his lemon tart was not up to scratch.
On the ABC, Grand Designs had an audience of 415,000, followed by Aussie drama Barons with 133,000 viewers.
The top non-news program on SBS was Fall of the Maya Kings with 148,000 viewers.
