• Australia gravitates to the ABC for pivotal election night
Total TV Ratings, May 14
ABC’s Father Brown topped the total TV ratings for non-news programs, bringing in 728,000, up15%.
ABC also claimed the #2 spot with Call the Midwife, reaching a total TV audience of 623,000, experiencing a lift of 24%
Getaway was the top entertainment program on Nine with 426,000, while the top entertainment program on Seven was Border Security- Australia’s Front Line with 406,000.
Overnight TV Ratings, May 21
Anthony Albanese wasn’t the only winner last night as the ABC dominated election night with a winning primary channel share of 27.9%, paired with a top network share of 44.3% to give it an easy win. ABC News was also the top multichannel with 15.2%, as it outrated all the commercial primary channels. The ABC’s election coverage had 910,000 viewers on the primary channel, and 459,000 on ABC News before its evening segment had 798,000 and 434,000 respectively. Coverage was hosted by Leigh Sales, David Speers and Antony Green, and included analysis from Annabel Crabb, Andrew Probyn, Laura Tingle and Bridget Brennan.
Nine’s coverage of the election brought in 397,000 viewers with an additional 384,000 tuning in for the vote count coverage. Peter Overton and Alicia Loxley led an expert panel featuring Julie Bishop, Bill Shorten, Jane Hume, Kate Ellis, Matt Canavan and Chris Uhlmann.
On Seven, Richmond went head to head with Essendon on Seven’s AFL: Saturday Night Football, clocking an audience of 306,000. 151,000 Melbournians tuned in to watch at the MCG. Australia Decides: Your Vote 2022 had 311,000 viewers with 373,000 tuning in for the late coverage.

The election coverage on Sky News had a range of 76,000-125,000 viewers throughout the segments of its night long election coverage.
Fox League has dominated the subscription TV ratings thanks to its NRL coverage. The North Queensland Cowboys v The Melbourne Storm was the top match of the night with 249,000 viewers. The Sydney Roosters v the Penrith Panthers was the next highest rated match with 204,000 viewers ahead of the St George Illawarra Dragons v the New Zealand Warriors which had 165,000 viewers.
On Fox Footy, the North Melbourne Kangaroos v the Melbourne Demons was the top rating AFL match with 137,000 viewers. In other matches, The Richmond Tigers v the Essendon Bombers had 134,000, the Geelong Cats v the Port Adelaide Power had 97,000. On Fox Sports 503, the Western Bulldogs v the Gold Coast Suns had 95,000 viewers while the Adelaide Crows v the St Kilda Saints had 84,000.
The Supercars race 13 in Winton had 81,000 viewers.
