TV Ratings June 23, 2022: MasterChef gets prickly with hard-to-tame ingredients

Total TV Ratings, June 16

MasterChef Australia has found itself as the top primetime show in total TV, rising 28%  with 814,000 tuning in for an auction that was held as part of the Immunity Pin challenge. Home and Away followed closely beyond, rising 31% for a total of 759,000.

For the public broadcasters, ABC’s Q+A rose 11% for a 396,000 strong audience. Once again rocketing up the total TV chart was SBS’s British police drama, D.I. Ray, coming in with a total audience of 387,000, the show lifted 161%.

Seven has won the night with a primary share of 22.3% and a network share of 32.3%. The top multichannel of the night was 7TWO with a 3.9% share. 

Thursday night AFL kicked off Seven’s night, with The Demons mauling The Lions. The reigning premiers broke their three match losing streak, taking down Brisbane 117 to 53 for an audience of 409,000. Outside of AFL heartland, Home and Away brought 303,000 to sunny Summer Bay. Britains’s Got Talent followed on, with 135,000 tuning in for the first semi final.

It was a big sports night, with Nine airing both the Mens’ and Womens’ Under 19’s State of Origin. The women were up first, with an impressive 109m try scored by New South Wales’ Jada Taylor helping bring the Blues to victory 22-6. The men played in primetime, with 156,000 watching an all-in scuffle break out before the Blues once again took victory over the Maroons 32-4. Outside of the NRL states, RBT drew a crowd of 115,000.

On 10, The Project (226,000 6:30pm / 343,000 7pm) covered the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide and brought viewers all the joy of The Westminster Dog Show. MasterChef got prickly with an elimination challenge that saw 480,000 watch the cooks create dishes out of spiky ingredients – sea urchins, prickly pear, stinging nettles and chestnuts.

On the ABC, Leigh Sales sat down with Anthony Albanese for the first time since he became Prime Minister on 7.30 for an audience of 430,000. A repeat of Foreign Correspondent took 332,000 to Italy, before Q+A was live from Werribee with 210,000 tuning in to see the panel of Brendan O’Connor, Bridget McKenzie, Gabriela D’Souza, Lech Blaine, and Alexi Boyd. Before school, Bluey continues to dominate, with a State of Origin themed episode bringing in 437,000.

On SBS, the highest rating non-news program was House of Maxwell which drew a crowd of 125,000.
