Collingwood and Essendon are set to go head-to-head at a sold-out MCG for the annual ANZAC Day matchup that will be streamed live on Foxtel Go and Kayo Sports at 3:20 pm.
Tickets for the clash between Collingwood and Essendon had sold out before the 2023 AFL season had started, selling out on February 28.
While the actual match between the two rivals doesn’t start until 3:20 pm, the pre-game ceremonies will start around 2:40 pm, which will recognise the Australian War veterans as well as a Flag Ceremony which will be followed by the playing of the “Last Post” and the Australian National Anthem.
The Collingwood-Essendon rivalry dates back all the way to 1897 when the teams first met on the field on the 15th of May at the East Melbourne Football ground.
In terms of ANZAC Day matches specifically, Collingwood has an advantage of 16 wins to 10 and for the first time since 2001, both teams are in the top four on the ladder going into the ANZAC Day match.
Crowd capacity is expected to potentially break a record, currently held by the ANZAC Day match in 1995 having 94,825 fans in attendance.
Last month, oOh!media announced a new interactive experience that allowed AFL fans to show off the colour of their favourite teams by directly taking over digital out-of-home broadcast screens in real-time.
To celebrate the 2023 AFL Premiership season, the AFL partnered with POLY to inspire passionate and competitive footy supporters across Australia to flaunt their team loyalty to Out of Home audiences with ‘Team Colour Takeover’.
Using a unique QR code on each digital panel, the AFL, POLY and oOh!’s creative, content and marketing technology team, developed a media-first where fans are directed to a microsite to directly engage with the application and take over the screen’s background with their favourite team’s colour, until of course the next passionate fan changes it.
