SEEK has launched Laws of Attraction, an interactive data portal offering comprehensive data based on the interviews of 11,500 Australians.

Among the data on offer is an insight into what drives candidates to apply for roles in the marketing and communications industry.

The Australian human resource consulting company is currently experiencing a record-high in job ads as a result of the Great Job Boom, the topic of exactly what candidates value most to maintain a competitive edge and attract great talent has never been more important

SEEK’s Laws of Attraction data portal allows for browsing based in industry, age, gender, location, seniority and work type.

Among the key insights specific to the marketing and communications industry include salary and compensation, with an importance score of 28.9%.

The data found in comparison to other industries, marketing and communications has a strong focus on company paid maternity/parental leave (49%) and transparency around benchmarking (42%).

Another insight of importance is the work-life balance, scoring 23.1%. The research found the ability to work from home / remotely (48%), additional leave (32%) and time in lieu (30%) rank highest as the ‘must have’ sub-drivers of attraction for the Marketing & Communications industry

Rounding what drives candidates to apply for roles in the marketing and communications industry is career development, scoring 12.5%.

At a sub-driver level, those in the marketing and communications industry place promotion opportunities (53%) and on-the-job skill development and coaching (45%) as ‘must haves’  in the job criteria.

Maryanne Tsiatsias, director of marketing at SEEK, said: “With a great job boom and tight labour market, marketing and communications organisations need to be smart in how they stand out in the sea of job ads and attract the best talent for their roles.

“The refreshed Laws of Attraction shows the value of adapting to what your current and future employees are asking for – whether that be flexible working or career development opportunities – otherwise risk losing a competitive edge,” she added.
