The first teaser from the second season of the British drama series Gentleman Jack has been released, ahead of its premiere on Foxtel this April.
The BAFTA-nominated, eight-episode period drama, set in England in the Regency era of the 1800s, is based on the real-life diaries of English heiress Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) and follows the relationship between Lister and heiress Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle). Games of Thrones’ Gemma Whelan also stars as Marian Lister and included in the cast are Gemma Jones as Aunt Anne Lister and Timothy West as Jeremy Lister.
In season two, all eyes are on Anne Lister and Ann Walker as they set up home together in Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple. Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and, with Halifax on the brink of revolution, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous.
Season two again uses the diaries of Lister – part of which were written in code – as its source, with every part of Lister’s story based on historical fact and the five million words she wrote in her journals.
Gentleman Jack is produced by Lookout Point for HBO and BBC One and is exclusive in Australia to the Foxtel Group.
