Welcome to Mediaweek’s Social Media Influence 100.
With data provided by media intelligence and data analytics company, Meltwater and edited by Mediaweek, The Social Media Influence 100 outlines the top 100 Australians with influence across all social media platforms.
The platforms include TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
It’s important to note that this is not a list of Australia’s top influencers, but rather a list of who has the most influence on the Australian public on social media. This list is comprised of influencers, artists, athletes, actors and more, who match the criteria.
Criteria:
1. Ranked using Meltwater’s Klear score, followed by reach.
2. Minimum of 400,000 followers across all social media platforms.
3. Must be Australian with a “creator” or “business” profile on Instagram.
4. Minimum of 30% Australian audience or at least 14%, when the individual’s following is beyond 3 million, and their influence score is above 98.
Explanation of what goes into Meltwater’s Klear score
The Klear Score is an overall influence indicator that is calculated using multiple variables and Klear’s proprietary AI algorithm. Meltwater takes into account many variables including the influencers’ following, reach, quality of engagement rate and audience quality. Collectively, this information is used in Klear’s algorithm to assign each influencer a Klear Score from 1-100.
Audience quality refers to the authenticity of the account’s followers, which could include factors like posting frequency, how often they are engaging with the influencer’s content, follower/following ratio, newly created profiles, do they have profile pics etc. Overall the goal is to analyse whether the influencer’s audience is authentic and likely to engage with future content.
It is important to keep in mind that a given Klear Score is not “good” or “bad” in its own right but rather is used to assign an influencer into their category of influence (Celebrity, Power User, Micro, Nano) and to provide a reference point for comparing between influencers.
