Mediaweek Hot List July 2022: Celebrating agency success at Cannes Lions

We celebrate the achievements of seven media and creative agencies at top of their game

The Mediaweek Hot List monthly feature is compiled by Mediaweek contributing editor Greg Graham with the Mediaweek editorial team. This is the third Hot List after launching in May 2022.

Greg Graham: This month I’m going to mix it up and celebrate creativity. Awards are only one part of the regular criteria however when you win a Lion at Cannes. It’s a big deal and I wanted to celebrate those local agencies that shined.

Mediaweek Hot List: Sizzling HOT

Media agency: OMD

The work for Suncorp’s AAMI Rest towns won a Gold in the media category for best use of data (Facebook, Spotify & Tik Tok inputs) plus a Bronze in the creative category. OMD also won the Global Media Network of the Year which is a very hotly contested category.

Creative Agency: Leo Burnett

Burnetts Sydney, in particular, is a great agency, and to win a Grand Prix for Innovation for Suncorp One House to Save Many is outstanding plus this incredible work also picked up a swag of other Lions including Silver and Bronze. Everyone involved in this brilliant work should be very proud and the client’s collaborative efforts applauded!

Mediaweek Hot List: HOTTEST

Media Agency: PHD

The award-winning work for VW The Ad Break Championship GTI Hijack wouldn’t have happened without the media agency PHD making it a reality so I wanted to acknowledge its part in the success of winning a coveted Gold Lion.

Creative Agency: DDB

Turning an ad break into a three-minute race using a VW Golf GTI took out both a Gold and Bronze Lion. This excellent DDB campaign not only delivered on creativity but importantly increased dealers’ call-backs by 436%. When you combine brilliant creativity with effective results that’s the perfect blend.

Creative Agencies: Howatson+Company, Host Havas & CHEP

All three agencies won a collection of Silver & Bronze Lions for great work for Matilda Bay Rejected Ales (Howatson+Co), Australian Federal Police Crime Interrupted (Host Havas), and 7 Eleven Coffee Scrub (CHEP).
