Kia is marking 22 years as the major partner of the Australian Open.
To celebrate its milestone, the car manufacturer is launching its daring, Australian-first ‘Kia Wave’ activation featuring its new halo model, the electric EV6 GT, suspended nine metres off the ground.
Affirming its position as the brand’s new performance halo, the EV6 GT, capable of reaching an eye-watering 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, will be positioned at new heights, perched atop a near ten-metre illuminated ramp to give the illusion that it’s ‘flying’.
Kia Wave is designed to capture the natural beauty of the Australian landscape, with its bespoke LED ramp showcasing an ever-evolving lighting display. The ramp transitions from the depths of the Bass Strait to the unique colours of the salt lakes of South Australia and Aurora Australis, to the clouds in the Victorian high-country sky.
Kia Wave will also feature a secondary display, offering Australian Open fans a more intimate experience with the EV6 GT. Framed by a geometric arch, LED insets on either side of the arch feature Kia ambassador and current Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott, talking through the vehicle’s long list of performance features.
Kia Australia general manager of marketing, Dean Norbiato said: “Each year we look to raise the bar when it comes to our AO display or activation and this year the team have literally taken it to new heights.
“The EV6 GT is our new performance halo, and it is befitting it takes centre stage atop a first-of-its- kind Kia activation. Linking with the EV6 GT’s ‘Enjoy your Flight’ launch platform, we wanted an attention-grabbing way to bring that to life in experiential form, and the team have most certainly met the brief.
“We can’t wait to welcome the expected record crowds through the gates and see the Kia wave activation and get up close with our new all electric EV6 GT.”
The Kia Wave activation and a collection of EV6 GT vehicles will be on display at Grand Slam Oval at the Australian Open from Monday 16th January for two weeks. The Kia EV6 GT will be available in Australia from late January.
