• The new Favourites option will allow users to customise their feed

Instagram has introduced two new features to its content sharing app to allow users to personalise their feed.

The newest features, Favourites and Following, lets users individualise content most relevant to them, allowing them to have more control over their feed.

In an announcement, Instagram said they want users to be able to shape the app into the best experience possible for them.

“We’re always working on new ways to improve your Instagram experience. We’ll continue to build features like Favorites and Following to give you more choice and control over what you see, and help make the time you spend on the app feel more intentional.”

Accounts added to Favourites will appear at the top of a user’s home feed with a star icon and a separate feed. For a person to use the new features they can click on the Instagram logo in the top left corner of the home page to select what to see.

The purpose of Favourites is for users to see the most recent posts from up to 50 accounts of their choosing. Additionally, posts from accounts added to Favourites will show up higher in the user’s home feed.

Accounts added or removed from a user’s Favourites list will not be notified and the list can be edited at all times.

The Following feature will filter by accounts as a user follows, with both the Favourites and Following features sorting content by chronological order. To use Favorites and Following, tap on Instagram in the top left corner of your home page to choose what you see.

“Your Instagram feed is a mix of photos and videos from people you follow, suggested posts and more. Over time, we’re going to add more recommendations to your feed based on your interests — Favorites and Following are new ways to catch up on recent posts from the accounts you follow,” said Instagram.
