EXCLUSIVE: Gina Liano credits fans for Real Housewives of Melbourne revival

Four years is a long time between drinks. In television, it can feel like a lifetime.

So when BINGE confirmed The Real Housewives of Melbourne was coming back, with original cast member Gina Liano once again front and centre, fans reacted quickly.

And according to Liano, those same fans are the reason Melbourne's Housewives are getting another turn in front of the cameras.

When Mediaweek asked how much of the revival was powered by the show's enduring fanbase, Liano didn't hesitate.

“All of it.”

Gina is back, but who will join her?

The Real Housewives of Melbourne first launched in 2014 and went on to become the most-watched reality series in Foxtel's history.

Now, after years off air, season six will begin production in 2027, with Liano the first Housewife officially confirmed.

And, for now at least, even she doesn't know who will be joining her.

“I haven't started filming yet. I'm so looking forward to it. They've just announced their casting still, so we're not entirely sure who else is coming back. But certainly I am. I think I'm the first one confirmed, to be honest.”

More new and returning cast members are expected to be announced, leaving one rather important question hanging over Melbourne: which Housewives will walk back through the door?

ITV Studios Australia and Universal Television Alternative Studio UK Productions will produce the new season.

Back to the Bar and the Housewives

For Liano, returning to reality television also means juggling filming again with a legal career that never went away.

Asked how she plans to balance life as a Housewife with her work as a barrister, Liano said the formula hasn't changed.

“Just how I've done it always.

“I've done four seasons before, and I've worked full-time as a barrister pretty much. And I'm a celebrant now as well, so I have lots of booked and just a day at a time.”

The revival forms part of a broader return to established Australian franchises at BINGE. Wentworth has also been pulled from the television vault and rebuilt as Wentworth: Halfway Home, with Rachel Griffiths joining returning favourites, while Selling Houses Australia is heading into its 19th season.

But few Australian reality shows inspire quite the same devotion as Melbourne's Housewives. Years after its last episode aired, fans kept asking for its return.

Now they've got it.

As for Liano's advice after all these years away?

“Make the most out of every day.”
