Foxtel has announced it will expand the availability of sports in 4K Ultra-High Definition (UHD) and the launch of a new destination for UHD sport.
This expansion will see double the live hours of 4K UHD content this year for Foxtel viewers, including 200 hours of NRL – including select NSW Cup and NRLW matches, AFL, Formula 1 – including practice and qualifiers and 2022 Masters Tournament.
As part of the better experiences for sports fans, these enhancements will see the existing single Fox Sports UHD channel on Foxtel, Channel 508, replaced.
To access the 4K UHD, subscribers will need to go to the Sports section of the home screen or hit the Sport button on their voice remote.
Nick Dandy, group director of product innovation and UX, Foxtel Group, said: “Fox Sports is the home of the best coverage of Australia’s most popular sports, and we want our Foxtel Sports subscribers to enjoy an experience like no other. Ultra HD brings incredible detail to the sports Australian’s love.”
“This year sees us continue to invest in 4K UHD content and technology to get the best live sports experience from the field or race track all the way to our subscribers home in brilliant 4K UHD,” he added.
Foxtel also announced software upgrades to the iQ4 set top boxes have commenced, which will give viewers an enjoyable watching experience.
This comes after Fox Sports announced the introduction of a dedicated 24/7 channel on Foxtel, covering the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, happening in February.
Every game of the tournament was broadcast live and ad-break free during play across the bespoke Women’s World Cup channel, Fox Cricket, and other Fox Sports channels.
In addition to matches, the pop-up destination on Foxtel for cricket fans will also showcase replays, Fox Minis, highlights packages, and additional bespoke content captured throughout the tournament.
