Box Office: Death on the Nile and Marry Me hit the charts

This weekend the Australian box office made a total of $8.38 million, a 4% downturn from last week, and saw two films crack the top 5 in their first week. 

Jackass Forever was bumped down to the second spot, with new movie Death on the Nile taking out the top position. Marry Me, a new romantic comedy that was released in the spirit of Valentines Day is now at number 3, overtaking Spider-Man: No Way Home. 

Belfast also maintained its position in the top 5, and Spider-Man: No Way Home dropped to fourth position, after spending the first eight weeks of it's release at #1. 

Sing 2 dropped to 7th place, with new movie Blacklight starring Liam Neeson cracking 6th place in it's first week of release. 

#1: Death on the Nile, $1.65 million

Based on an early Agatha Christie novel from 1937, Death on the Nile was released this week, starring the likes of Gal Gadot and Russell Brand. The film averaged $4,178 across 395 screens, topping the box office in it's debut week and overtaking Jackass Forever. 

#2: Jackass Forever, $1.46 million

During it's second week on screen, Jackass Forever averaged $5,073 across 288 screens. This was a downfall of 41% compared to it's debut week, however the film has already grossed over $4.5 million in the first two weeks of release. 

#3: Marry Me, $1.46 million

Also in it's debut week, Marry Me is a romantic comedy based off a graphic novel by Bobby Crosby. The film averaged $3,396 over 357 screens, grossing $1.21 million. 

#4: Spider-Man: No Way Home, $701,869

Spider-Man: No Way Home has seen it's first week dropping under a million since it's release. It has seen a 34% downturn since last week, with an average of $2,271 across 309 screens in it's 9th week. The film is still grossing a massive $79.15 million, sitting in 4th place in the list of highest grossing films in Australia, only $10 million under Avengers: Endgame.

#5: Belfast, $496,527

Now in it's second week of release, Belfast has maintained a position in the top 5. It averaged $5,456 across 91 screens, and is now grossing over $1.6 million, an almost $1 million jump from last week.
