After a five-month delay, the 75th annual Emmys have arrived to award outstanding achievements in acting, writing and directing in the world of Television.
While hotly contested if it even belongs in the ‘comedy’ category, culinary dramedy The Bear swept anyways, winning six total Emmys including wins for Ayo Edebiri for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Ebon Moss-Bachrach for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Jeremy Allen White for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. It also took home Best Comedy Series.
On the ‘Drama’ side of things, Succession also took home six Emmys including an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series win for Aussie Sarah Snook. Kieran Culkin won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series while the show itself won Outstanding Drama Series for its fourth and final season.
Programs from streaming services secured the highest share of nominations at the awards – marking the first time the streamers have overtaken the networks.
A total of 27 out of 41 shows nominated were from a streaming service, led by Succession with 27 nods, followed by The Last of Us with 24. Both shows are streamed on Binge in Australia.
