Excellence in Victorian journalism: Complete list of Quill Awards finalists

The awards have been substantially reviewed and upgraded

The Melbourne Press Club has announced the finalists in the 2016 Quill Awards for excellence in Victorian journalism.

Finalists have been named in each of the 27 Quill categories and for the Young Journalist of the Year Award and the Student Journalist of the Year Award.

The awards have been substantially reviewed and upgraded to reflect the changing media landscape.

A new Quill for Innovation in Journalism has been created.

In other changes, the Quill for headline writing has been discontinued and the Quills for regional and rural affairs reporting and suburban reporting have been combined in a new Quill for Suburban or Regional Journalism.

The Gold Quill will be awarded to the work judged best of all the Quill winners. The $7,500 prize again is supported by Melbourne Press Club principal sponsors Monash University and Virgin Australia.

Winners will be announced at the annual Quills dinner at Crown Palladium on Friday 17 March.
