Yung Milla becomes first rapper to win The Voice Australia

Darwin rapper Yung Milla has won The Voice Australia 2026, becoming the first rapper to take the title after Sunday night’s grand finale on Seven and 7plus. He receives $100,000 and a recording development package. 7NEWS

“I just can't believe it. I'm just so grateful,” he said after host Sonia Kruger announced the result.

His coach, Melanie C, told him: “I think I've run out of words. You know you've affected me. Obviously, everybody who's been in a room with you, everybody at home. I'm just so proud. You did this.”

Yung Milla replied: “You've made me stronger as a person, as an artist, and I couldn't be prouder. I'm doing it for my people.”

A different kind of Voice winner

Yung Milla performed Tupac’s Changes for his final solo number, then joined Melanie C for Never Be The Same Again. His path to the finale included a semi-final performance of Land Down Under, which featured a surprise appearance by his mother.

“I came here as a rapper from Darwin to share my story, my struggles, things that happen where I'm from and reach different audiences around Australia. Now I'm at the Grand Finale. C'mon, crazy,” he said.

Melanie C said his place in the competition had challenged expectations of its winner: “I think you being on this show has changed what The Voice means. Historically, we've always thought of a big singer, but it's about having a voice and using it very powerfully.”

Daisha Auda, The 60Four and Tommy Novak were the other grand finalists. Yung Milla’s prize includes production, recording, mixing and mastering, along with access to A&R and label services. 7NEWS
