Val Morgan has announced that cinema admissions reached a record two and half year peak, with over 3.05 million admissions delivered from Thursday last week, to Wednesday this week.
The success was driven by a line-up of content that has released over the last six weeks: Minions: The Rise of Gru, Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis, Lightyear, Jurassic World: Dominion, as well Thor: Love and Thunder. The latest Marvel instalment helped propel admissions, with 300,000 admissions and $4.5 million delivered at the box office in its first full day.

Between Top Gun fans, Marvel fans, the #Gentleminions trend, and the start of the school holiday period, it’s no surprise cinema has seen such a strong delivery of admissions.
“Since the launch of Top Gun: Maverick, Cinema has gone from strength to strength, recording some of the strongest audience admission results we’ve experienced in recent history. Last week’s result was driven by a phenomenal content slate and it’s incredible to hit such a significant post-pandemic milestone,” said Guy Burbidge, managing director of Val Morgan Cinema.
“As the summer months approach, Australians will continue to crave the biggest and best content in the most immersive environment – an experience that simply cannot be matched but any other medium. We have some of the biggest titles releasing later this year including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to Avatar which still sits firmly as the highest grossing film of all time, along with opportunities through Moonlight Cinema and soon Mov’in Cinema, both of which offer a shared social experience like no other.” added Burbidge.
The announcement comes after announcing four promotions to its sales leadership team in June.
