It’s been nearly three years since the 2019 TV Week Logies. After two years of no show and no awards, the ceremony returned and was again held on the Gold Coast.
Mediaweek recaps the TV Week Logies telecast on Nine with all the winners in case you missed it!
TV Week Logies: Pre-show Red Carpet
Leila McKinnon, David Campbell and Renee Bargh hosted the 30-minute red carpet show.
Mel B from the new season of The Masked Singer was one of two international guests.
Richard Wilkins and Angela Bishop promoted TV Week Logies live site. Most Logie wins ever belongs to Home and Away and Ray Meagher and Ada Nicodemou talking to McKinnon. Also Logie first-timer from Summer Bay Matt Evans.
Foxtel ad with Sam Neill features in the first ad break in some markets.
Lots of stars are interviewed on the red carpet from the cast of Stan’s Bump to reporter/footballer Tony Armstrong.
Lots of montages also feature stars that didn’t get one-on-one interviews.
David Campbell spoke to Ryan Moloney and April Rose Pengilly from Neighbours.
Montage of stars in their frocks and suits including Costas who advised he was dressed by Vinnies Op Shop. Waleed Aly stood out in a red dinner suit.
Nine was still promoting votes for Gold Logie nominees moments before voting closed.
Tom Gleeson and Karl Stefanovic jostled for Logie bragging rights ahead of perhaps another win.
The Living Room team have been together for 11 years, with eight TV Week Logies nominations and 4 wins, as Amanda Keller reminded viewers it could have been 10 and 6 but for Covid.
TV Week Logies: The main event
Tony Martin introduced Gold Logie nominee Julia Morris. “What sort of night is it going to be if they let a loose unit like me open the show,” said Morris dressed in a suit. “I identify as a woman, even if I dress like a man.” She isn’t a fan of Twitter. “I just don’t want to get cancelled.” She gave a special shout-out to Nine’s Michael Healy, sitting beside Hamish Blake, with Healy looking puzzled why he was being singled out.
Of her own workload, Morris joked, “I used to wonder why all the same people used to get all the work. Now I am one of them I don’t want that to change.”
Chrissie Swan and Karl Stefanovic worked well together as they presented.
Hamish and Andy talked about how the Logies are no longer able to be rigged. Or so they thought. Hamish said they will reveal a Logie cheating scandal. A young kid called Oliver joins them onstage staying he’s been voting multiple times for Karl Stefanovic on burner phones.
“An indigenous man and a guy in a wheelchair” followed – Tony Armstrong and Dylan Alcott. As Alcott noted, “There is some way to go, but we have come a long way.”
Tony Martin
As the voice-over guy, Martin did another great job. He found room to mention many of his favourites and even got a cameo inserted from Pete Smith.
TV Week Logies legend: Bert Newton tribute
Patti Newton walked on stage to a standing ovation at the start of the Bert Newton tribute which was part of the naming of an award after the TV legend. “Bert did live his dream,” said Patti. “He was 18 when he did his first tonight show – The Late Show on Channel 7. He did many shows, but the one show he really did love was this show – The Logies.” Patti said producer Peter Faiman told him to take risks and make it his own. “I have been his partner for 57 years – I have loved every minute. He was right, there were a few ups and downs, but it was never boring.” Patti then read out the nomination for the new Bert Newton Award.
TV Farewells
Neighbours
Montage of highlights over the years ending with Kylie and Jason wedding and the final cast photo.
