After winning four nights of Week 39, Nine was the Week 40 all people leader across five nights with its primary channel and on six nights in network share with The Block again the star performer. Nine finished the week with its best primary and network shares since Week 28 in the first week of July.
In multichannel shares for the week, 7TWO and 10Bold were tied on 3.0%.
Seven overnights Week 40
19.5% primary share, 27.3% network share
The share numbers dropped dramatically week-on-week after the audiences watching the AFL Grand Final in Week 39 boosted the results.
Seven News had the edge on Sunday and weeknights while the next best was the special 7News: Disappearance of William Tyrell with 688,000.
SAS Australia performed best on Wednesday with 643,000, while the episodes on Monday and Tuesday were both just under 600,000.
Home and Away averaged 602,000 for the week.
Total TV Week 38
The biggest Total TV program of the week was Seven’s Grand Final episode of The Voice. The Winner Announced segment was on 2,419,000 with the remainder of the final on 2,181,000.
Seven’s three episodes of SAS Australia in its opening week were all over 1.3m in Total TV with a national BVOD audience close to 200,000 for the Tuesday episode.
Nine overnights Week 40
21.1% primary share, 29.5% network share
While Nine News had the biggest audiences across the week, it was The Block which was the major timeslot winner. As we enter the penultimate survey month of 2021, host Scott Cam and his feuding contestants attracted an overnight audience pushing above 1m on Sunday. The Wednesday episode then made it to 900,000 while Monday and Tuesday were in the 800,000s, all of those episodes winning their timeslots.
A Current Affair averaged 755,000 for the week.
It was then a long way back to the next best – Paramedics on 585,000 and 60 Minutes on 575,000.
Total TV Week 38
All four episodes of The Block screened in Week 38 were close to or over 1.5m in Total TV. The Sunday, Monday and Tuesday episodes all had national BVOD audiences just under 200,000.
10 Overnights Week 40
11.7% primary share, 18.1% network share
The “reveal” segments of The Masked Singer performed the strongest for 10 with the Sunday segment on 762,000 and Monday on 719,000. The remainder of those episodes however were some way back with Sunday on 581,000 and Monday on 597,000.
The highest-rating complete episode on 10 was again Have You Been Paying Attention? on 683,000, down from 740,000 in Week 39.
Gogglebox was not far behind on 667,000. The Sunday night Young Talent Time Unmasked special was on 495,000. Seven will be hoping its forthcoming Hey Hey It’s Saturday reunion performs a little better.
Total TV Week 38
The Grand Finale of Australian Survivor was split into two for TV ratings. The Winner Announced was on 1,460,000 with a BVOD audience of 122,000. The remainder of that final night was on 1,139,000 with a BVOD crowd of 47,000.
ABC Overnights Week 40
11.9% primary share, 16.7% network share
The primary and network shares were the highest since 12.5% and 17.2% in Week 25 in mid-June.
After the 7pm news bulletins, a Friday episode of 7.30 covering the resignation of NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian had the biggest audience on 666,000. The Monday to Thursday episodes of 7.30 averaged 586,000.
The best of the rest included Australian Story (604,000), Hard Quiz (576,000), Gardening Australia (488,000) and a new season of Grantchester with started on Saturday (471,000).
Total TV Week 38
Five programs all had a Total TV audiences of 1.1m+ – ABC News Sunday, ABC News M-F, Four Corners, Australian Story and Hard Quiz. The BVOD audiences were all just 2% or less of the total.
SBS Overnights Week 40
4.8% primary share, 8.3% network share
The primary channel and the network enjoyed the biggest shares since mid-July.
A number of shows busted above 200,000 – Stonehenge: The Lost Circle Revealed was on 245,000, closely followed by a repeat episode of Great American Railway Journeys on 242,000.
The wonderful first part of Adrian Dunbar’s Coastal Ireland did 227,000 and Saturday night’s Celebrity Letters and Numbers was on 208,000.
Total TV Week 38
Inside Central Station saw its Total TV audience on 439,000. Other shows over 300,000 were Who Do You Think You Are? (Repeat), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (with a BVOD audience of 145,000), Tony Robinson’s World By Rail (Repeat) and Australia Uncovered: Strong Female Lead.
