Total TV Ratings: May 8
The Voice hit all the right notes for Seven, rising 27% to bring in a total audience of 1.441m. This made it the top overall show the entire night.
On Nine, Lego Masters saw six teams competing in two challenges, High Wire and Secret City, and lifted 25% to bring in a total audience of 1.193m. Afterwards, the second leaders’ debate between Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese lifted 12% for a total of 1.036m.
7News Spotlight showed The Fame Game, a special investigation that featured a cavalcade of legends sharing their highs and lows of celebrity life. The episode was up 13% for a total audience of 645,000.
ABC had a number of shows rise significantly. Grand Designs was up 14% for a total audience of 713,000, Insiders was up 16% for a total audience of 655,000, surf drama Barons was up 30% for a total audience of 263,000, and in the evening, UK drama Life rose 52% for a total of 247,000.

Seven has won the night with a network share of 30.4% and a primary share of 22.7%. Taking out the title for the multichannels was 7mate with a share of 3.3%.
On Seven, the semifinalists of The Voice were locked in when 726,000 watched Team Jess and Team Rita put their artists head to head. The Voice was comfortably the top non-news show of the evening. On 7News Spotlight, Deborah Hutton told 295,000 about her personal journey with melanoma for the first time.
Lego Masters got tense on Nine as 630,000 tuned into the penultimate episode of the show to see the teams build a creation on a cloud. The end of the episode resulted in the tearful elimination of Lexi and Rachel, meaning the three teams going ahead to tonight’s grand finale are Nick and Gene, Joss and Henry, and Alex and Caleb. On 60 Minutes, 425,000 watched as the show discussed how teacher shortages in schools are impacting Australia’s future generations.
The Sunday Project (244,000 6:30pm / 345,000 7pm) interviewed Florence Welch from Florence + The Machine, and paid tribute to Andrew Symonds after he dies in a car accident over the weekend aged 46. On MasterChef, an emotional elimination night saw Michael play his pin and Sashi sent home in front of an audience of 477,000.
On the ABC, 435,000 tuned in to Grand Designs before Buddy and Hunter made Trotter an offer he couldn’t refuse in Barons, bringing in an audience of 144,000.
On SBS, the Eurovision final saw 196,000 tune in for the 5am live broadcast and 204,000 watch later in the evening. Australia’s Sheldon Riley gave it his all, but ultimately Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra was crowned the winner of the 2022 contest with their song Stefania, a track that has become an anthem for the war-torn country.
