After suffering a 4-1 defeat to reigning champions France, the Socceroos will be taking to the field for the second time in the 2022 World Cup. This time, they’ll be facing off with Tunisia, who enter the match off the back of a draw with Denmark.
The match is crucial for both teams. Depending on the results of other games in the round, a loss for Australia could see the Socceroos knocked out of the competition. Whilst Tunisia is safe this round no matter what, a loss ahead of their next game with France would be crippling for their chances at moving ahead in the tournament.
The Socceroos V Tunisia match will be broadcast in Australia from 9pm AEDT on SBS and SBS On Demand.
Coach of the North African team, Jalel Kadri, said ahead of the game that he was preparing for a tough match with Australia.
“This is a key match for us and for Australia, you know how important this match is for both teams,” Kadri said.
“We know that excelled in some parts, when it comes to their stamina and fitness. This is why we show the greatest respect to the Australian team.”
“We deal with every match on its own, we take it step by step. We need to know how to negotiate the match to get the best match and hopefully luck will be on our side.”
Australian coach, Graham Arnold spoke yesterday about how the game plan differs from the previous match with France.
“The way we played the first 30 against France was intended for 90, but when you turn the ball over cheaply – it’s a technical issue – we got pushed further and further back,” said Arnold.
“Tomorrow is a different kettle of fish. We’ll be in their faces, up high, chasing and pressing like they do and as other teams do and being on the front foot.”
