TV Guide: Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony on Nine and 9Now

Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony starts on Saturday, 27 July at 3:30 am.

The Olympics are returning to Paris for the first time in 100 years, and to mark the occasion, organisers have broken tradition.

The 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony starts on Saturday, 27 July at 3:30 am – 7:15 am AEST on Nine and 9Now.

• Western Australia: 1:30 am start
• Northern Territory: 3:00 am start
• South Australia: 3:00 am start

In a Summer Olympics first, the opening ceremony will not be held within a stadium, as this year’s ceremony will be held along the city’s famous river, the Seine.

Jess Fox and Eddie Ockenden have also been officially named as Australia’s flag bearers for the Olympics.

The 10,500 athletes set to appear at the ceremony will travel by boat along the river and will start from the Austerlitz Bridge, beside the Jardin des Plantes.

Then, the route goes around the Île Saint Louis and the Île de la Cité, and will pass under almost 10 bridges and gateways.

Along the way, athletes will pass iconic local landmarks such as Notre-Dame de Paris, the Louvre, the Pont des Arts, Pont Neuf, Pont Alexandre III and Musée d’Orsay.

Aussie Olympians will sport green blazers, double-breasted for women and single for men and the Australian Olympians’ oath will be inside each jacket pocket.

Nine spent $305 million to acquire the Olympic rights from Seven, and have broadcasting rights from Paris in 2024 through to Brisbane in 2032.

This means that Nine is the place to watch the Paris Olympics, alongside Stan Sport, which will have streams available in 4K and ad-free.

Ahead of the Opening Ceremony, 9Now has revamped its experience for users, with Olympic coverage that will feature replays, highlights and more.

The updated platform will feature live coverage of all 45 official Olympic sports, a library of Olympic documentaries, sports explainers, and athlete profiles.

During live competition, a range of event highlights will be available, including race replays, full match replays, and session replays.
