Nick Kyrgios will be up against Novak Djokovic in the men’s Wimbledon final tonight from 11 pm AEST on Channel Nine.
Kyrgios’ path to the final was secured when Rafael Nadal pulled out of their semi-final clash due to an abdominal injury.
Six-time champion Djokovic reached his eighth final at the All England Club, and a record 32nd in men’s Slams, by seeing off Cameron Norrie 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in Friday’s semi-final.
Despite playing in his first final at the majors, Kyrgios boasts a 2-0 edge over the former world number one.
“One thing is for sure — there is going to be a lot of fireworks, emotionally, from both of us,” Djokovic said about Kyrgios. “He doesn’t have much to lose, and he’s always playing like that. He’s playing so freely.”
Kyrgios said Friday, “I’ve never been here before, so that’s where Djokovic has the advantage from the get-go.
“He can draw from experience. He’s done it so many more times. He knows the emotions he’s going to be feeling. I don’t know that.”
The whole of Australia will be tuning in to watch Kyrgios play in the Wimbledon final, as he will become the first Australian male to play in a Grand Slam final since Lleyton Hewitt at the 2005 Australian Open.
Throughout the evening, Todd Woodbridge, Sam Groth, Jelena Dokic and Brett Phillips will provide expert commentary hosted by Roz Kelly, with Tony Jones on the ground at Wimbledon.
Nine’s coverage of the 135th tournament will start at 7:30 pm every night on 9Gem. Every match will be available to stream ad-break free, live and on-demand on Stan Sport, with the ability to catch up on all the action with replays, mini matches and highlights.
