After being defeated 3-0 in Sydney on Saturday night, the Commonwealth Bank Matildas are ready to square up against the USA Women’s National Team once again.
Match two of the friendly will be played at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle, NSW on November 30, 2021, with kickoff at 8:05pm AEDT available to watch on Channel 10 and 10 Play.
The Matildas will be chasing a win, as they have lost to the United States in their past five encounters – Including the match for Bronze at the Tokyo Olympic Games, which saw the United States claim the medal.
Australia were caught out by the USA in match one, conceding a goal after just 24 seconds.
In better news, a record breaking 36,109 fans braved the rainy weather to watch the game.
Speaking after the game, Matildas head coach Tony Gustavsson said “As always, after a game, it’s about taking the learnings. You all know by now that I always talk about getting ‘one day better,’ and this is about getting one game better and taking the learnings from that game.
“We really learned something and the one thing that we will learn from that game, in not just the defending in the backline but also team defending, is that feeling of being uncomfortable, uncertain, stressed and pressured going into the game.
“That’s what we want to learn and get better at, to be able to perform on home soil in the World Cup when the spotlight is on us from the world, so to speak.”
This game will be the Matildas’ last game for 2021. Next year, the team will be preparing for tournaments as the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup approach.
