The Men’s T20 World Cup is set to start this weekend with Australia hosting 16 country’s teams in the tournament that was originally scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic. The World Cup begins on Sunday, October 16 at 3:00 pm on Channel 9 and 9Now with every game also live and ad-break free during play on Fox Sports.
The tournament runs from October 16 to November 13, with the 16 teams battling for the championship, which is currently held by Australia who beat New Zealand in the prior grand final. Not all teams have qualified for the Super 12 phase, however as teams will play a series of qualifiers to get through to the main draw.
The first match will be played in Geelong this weekend where Namibia vs Sri Lanka and the UAE face the Netherlands in a bid to qualify for the main draw. Other teams looking to qualify include the West Indies, Scotland, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
Australia will play their first match at the SCG on Saturday, October 22 but the MCG will host the highly anticipated sold-out game with India v Pakistan on Sunday, October 23.
Australia’s home-ground advantage in the World Cup makes them the favourites to win the tournament, however, India, Pakistan, England and New Zealand will be the main teams to challenge Australia.
Alongside the SCG and the MCG, the World Cup venues are across Australia including Adelaide Oval, the Gabba in Brisbane, Geelong’s Kardinia Park, Hobart’s Bellerive Oval and Perth Stadium.
