An array of music royalty, activists and world leaders will unite for the planet at Global Citizen Live this Sunday from 3.00am AEST on 9Now.
The lineup includes performances and calls to action from music superstars Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Duran Duran, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Green Day, Jennifer Lopez, Lorde, Metallica, Ricky Martin and Stevie Wonder, along with Aussie artists Delta Goodrem, Keith Urban, 5 Seconds of Summer and Kylie Minogue.
With an Australian live ticketed event quashed by COVID, Delta Goodrem takes the reigns on home soil, delivering a performance to an empty foreshore at the Sydney Opera House.
The broadcast will also feature remote appearances from Cathy Freeman, Celeste Barber and Aussie export Hugh Jackman, who will host the event from London, alongside his wife Deborra-Lee Furness from New York.
Sydney, New York, Paris, Lagos, LA, Rio, Seoul and London are among the many cities hosting performances, with the broadcast spanning even further.
Across seven continents, the 24-hour event will call on citizens to defend the planet by demanding that governments and major corporations take urgent action on the most pressing issues crippling our world today: poverty, climate change and inequality.
It’s the event that brings the world together as these influential figures bare their souls in the fight for a true and just society.
Coinciding with the UN General Assembly, the G20 Meeting in October, and the COP26 Meeting in November, Global Citizen Live calls on Australia to commit to:
Reducing domestic emissions by 74% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050, with a clear plan of achieving this, ahead of COP 26.
Sign on to the Race to Zero and make new science-based targets in line with the Paris Agreement to avoid a greater than 1.5-degree temperature rise.
Donate further funding and vaccines via COVAX to ensure equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine in the region.
Stream the 24-hour coverage of Global Citizen Live free on Sunday, September 26, from 3.00am AEST on 9Now and catch all the highlights on Friday, October 1, at 12.00pm on Channel Nine.
