The feature documentary Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story, highlighting the ride of maverick entrepreneur Michael Gudinski, will premiere at 7:30pm on 9 April on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story follows Gudinski over five decades, providing rare insight into how the hitmaker inspired the soundtrack of a nation and revolutionised the Australian music industry.
At age 19, Gudinski launched Mushroom Records and went on to sign and nurture iconic artists including Skyhooks, Split Enz, Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Hunters & Collectors, Kylie Minogue, Archie Roach and Yothu Yindi.
The film dives into the psyche and unorthodox tactics of Gudinski as he became the frontman of a cultural movement and built a music empire.
Helmed by feature film, documentary, and music video director Paul Goldman and produced by Bethany Jones, the film features personal accounts from Gudinski himself, exclusive interviews and rare archival footage.
Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story is a Mushroom Studios production, and premieres at 7:30 pm on 9 April on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Its launch follows Seven’s recent Good Friday Appeal, which was broadcast on Channel 7 in Melbourne and nationally on 7plus and helped raise a record-breaking $23,368,724 for The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Managing director of Seven Melbourne and head of network sport, Lewis Martin, said it is always touching to see Victorians dig deep for a cause so close to many people’s hearts.
“It is an honour for Seven to broadcast this iconic event, as we have for the past 67 years,” he said.
“Thank you to all of our special guests, volunteers and staff who made it all possible, and to our partners at The Royal Children’s Hospital and the Herald Sun for another outstanding year.”
The Good Friday Appeal included performances from Conrad Sewell; Kate Miller-Heidke, who is soon to debut as a coach on the upcoming season of The Voice; Mark Seymour and his daughter Eva; 2024 Australian Idol winner Dylan Wright; and a cover of Tom Petty’s Won’t Back Down by 7NEWS’ Peter Mitchell.
