The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are well underway, broadcast live and free, exclusively on Seven and 7plus until August 8.

So far, Australia has won seven gold, one silver and three bronze medals in track cycling.

There are eight track cycling events at Birmingham 2022: team sprint, team pursuit, individual pursuit, scratch race, points race, keirin, sprint and time trial – with tandem para-cycling included in the latter two events.

The track cycling team got off to a strong start, despite Australia’s top sprint cyclist, Matt Glaetzer, being left battered and bruised on London’s Olympic velodrome track after a 70kph crash in the mass sprint event.

Jessica Gallagher secured Australia’s first gold medal of the Games when she took out the Women’s Tandem B Sprint with pilot Caitlin Ward, while Australia’s women’s 4000m Team Pursuit went on to win the gold medal and set a new Commonwealth Games record at the Lee Valley velodrome in London.

Additionally, Matthew Richardson claimed gold, beating world record holder Nicholas Paul to take out the men’s sprint.

Making up the Australian Track Cycling Team is Georgia Baker, Kristina Clonan, Sophie Edwards, Jessica Gallagher, Breanna Hargrave, Alessia McCaig, Chloe Moran, Maeve Plouffe, Alyssa Polites, Sarah Roy, Caitlin Ward, Tom Cornish, Josh Duffy, Graeme Frislie, Matthew Glaetzer, Leigh Hoffman, Conor Leahy, James Moriarty, Luke Plapp, Matthew Richardson, Beau Wootton, and Luke Zaccaria.
