After claiming the top position on all four charts two weeks ago, Loki has continued to back up its performance and enjoyed the same result this week. The third Marvel TV show to be released on Disney+ this year is also the first to be officially renewed for a second season – an announcement that was made during the credits of the season finale last week.
The show weaves its way in and out of timelines, as the mysterious TVA works to keep variants under control and “prune” any branches from the Sacred Timeline. With the finale this week blowing the timeline open and ending on a major cliffhanger, fans are all but convinced that the ending will lead into Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. They’ll have to wait though, Multiverse of Madness isn’t due for release until March next year.
In Australia, Loki has come in at a massive 33.16 points above market average, and 22.31 points above market average in New Zealand.
The success of Loki seems to have had an impact on the other two Marvel shows on Disney+. WandaVision in particular has been lifted to 18.59 points above market average in Australia and 13.97 in New Zealand.
Fellow Disney+ show The Mandalorian has surged back up the chart, taking second place on both Australian charts this week.
The Mandalorian was a huge hit for Disney+, and while it didn’t stay in the number one position throughout the entire calendar year of 2020, it started and ended the year reigning supreme.
A third season of the Star Wars show was rumoured to be dropping in August 2021, but Disney+ has announced their schedule for August and The Mandalorian isn’t on it. There is still no official release date, but we do know that a third season is in the works.
