After dipping out of #1 for only a week, Stranger Things is back at the top in Australia’s digital originals. The season four finale of the sci-fi series aired on July 1 and has maintained momentum ever since. This past week, the show had a 30.9 point difference in Australia and a 17.9 point difference in New Zealand.
The Handmaid’s Tale on SBS fell from first to second in Australia’s digital originals, but held the top position for a second week in New Zealand. Coming in 25.54 and 20.48 points above the market average, respectively, season five of the series is in full swing as the tension grows between June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) and Serena Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) in the wake of Commander Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) murder. The Handmaid’s Tale also placed fourth on Australia’s overall TV shows and third in New Zealand
In Australia’s digital originals, Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has come in at third, 25.22 points above the market average. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, it stars Evan Peters as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and has received mixed reviews, with praise for Peters’ performance, but criticism for the way it was portrayed.
Coming second in the New Zealand digital originals was Disney+ digital original, Andor. The new series is part of the Star Wars franchise and is a prequel to the Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One (2016). The series follows thief-turned-Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five years leading up to the events of the film. In New Zealand, the show had a difference of 19.87 and 22.67 points in Australia.
Over on Australia’s overall TV shows, Game Of Thrones topped the chart for another week, coming in 32.2 times more in demand than its competitors. House Of The Dragon followed closely behind with 32.02 points above average.
New Zealand’s overall shows had a similar result, with House Of The Dragon coming first (30.4 points), followed by Game of Thrones (23.62 points). Andor clocked fourth while Breaking Bad came in at fifth with 17.93 points.
In its sixth week on screens, Disney + original, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, has fallen to sixth in the Australian digital originals. Based on the Marvel Comics, the series follows Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), a lawyer specialising in cases involving superhumans, who also becomes the green superhero, She-Hulk. The series came in 19.53 points above average in Australia and 17.19 points in New Zealand.
