After an incredible 14-year run, Hau Lātūkefu is hanging up the headphones on triple j’s Hip Hop Show. He won’t be far as he continues to share his impeccable taste and tunes every Friday afternoon on Double J’s Sky High.
In 2023, triple j’s Hip Hop Show is set to enter a new era as they kick off the new year with a series of residencies. Hau will mentor residents as they host the show, Bars of Steel, and all things hip hop across triple j socials.
Hau shares: “It’s been one hell of a journey. A journey I’m super grateful for. I’ve worked with a great team, met my idols, supported amazing emerging talent, and I’ve been able to help with the evolution of hip-hop and its culture in Australia.
“Although I’ll be stepping away from the HHS mic, I won’t be too far as I’ll be supporting the next crop of hosts to continue to share the best hip hop Australia and the world has to offer, and I’ll still be hosting Double J’s Sky High. Thank you for the memories and for your trust.”
Lātūkefu took to social media earlier this month to announce he will be releasing a memoir through Penguin publishing on November 1 titled KING: Life, Death and Hip Hop. Written with journalist Christopher Riley, the book will showcase his journey from the town of Queanbeyan to his rise to Australian hip-hop prominence.
Since taking over triple j’s Hip Hop Show in 2008, Hau has introduced triple j listeners to artists like ONE FOUR, Remi, Sampa the Great, and The Kid Laroi. His passion for the hip-hop community is unmatched; he’s brought us a rap cipher with Nerve, ChillinIT, Alex Jones, and HUSKii and championed emerging and established artists on Bars of Steel.
Listen to Hau on Double J’s Sky High every Friday from 5 pm.
