Tony Broderick is leaving Netflix after seven years with the streaming company, where he helped lead its marketing operations across Australia and New Zealand.

Broderick announced his departure on LinkedIn, describing his time at Netflix as “the best stretch of my career”. He will now take an intentional break before deciding on his next move.

Helping build Netflix in Australia

Broderick joined Netflix in 2019 as part of what he described as a foundational Australian team. During his tenure, the company strengthened its position in Australia while marketing major international and local productions.

Those titles included global hits such as Stranger Things, Wednesday and Squid Game, alongside Australian series Boy Swallows Universe and Heartbreak High.

“I joined back in 2019, part of a foundational Aussie team who, together, grew Netflix into one of Australia’s most loved and valued brands — and Australia into one of Netflix’s best-performing markets,” Broderick wrote.

His responsibilities included working across the APAC Marketing Leadership Team and the ANZ Country Leadership Team. He also led Netflix’s core ANZ marketing team.

Broderick thanks Netflix colleagues

Broderick acknowledged a group of colleagues who supported the company’s marketing work, including Brant Harvey, Cammy Dale, Haley Hall, Lisa Goldstein, Melanie Mahony, Nathan Burman, Novy Wong and Shan Gao.

He also thanked local content executives Amanda Duthie and Que Minh Luu, along with their teams, creative partners and Netflix’s agency network.

“Partnering with you, backing you, and learning from you has been a real privilege,” he wrote.

Broderick also recognised former managers Liz Selby, Barry Smyth, Marian Lee, Anita Kanal and June Sauvaget for their coaching and support throughout his time with the business.

An intentional break before the next move

Broderick has not announced his next professional role. For now, he said he plans to step away from work and spend more time with his family.

“For now, I’m taking an intentional break — trading Slack notifications for daycare pickups, playtime and family dinners, before the next adventure finds me,” he wrote.

Before joining Netflix, Broderick held roles with businesses including Twitter and Fremantle.
