The Australian is marking a decade-long partnership with Visy with the Global Food Forum 2022 attracting a world-class lineup of agribusiness leaders.
The Global Food Forum in-person event in Melbourne today will debate the critical issues facing Australia’s $100 billion agricultural sector, and take a look forward to the next 10 years of Australian agribusiness.
The Forum – a partnership between the publication and Visy and supported by The Wall Street Journal – has become a key fixture on the nation’s corporate calendar driven by The Australian’s award-winning and groundbreaking journalism.
The Australian’s editor-in-chief Christopher Dore said: “The purpose of our 10th anniversary Global Food Forum is to examine what lies in store for the next decade of Australian agribusiness, as the sector rebounds from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic; and to reflect on all the challenges it has thrown at us all.
“When the Food Forum concept was first pitched to Visy’s executive chairman Anthony Pratt back in 2011, it took him less than a minute to agree to back the project.
“Ever since, Anthony and Visy have been wonderful supporters of our ambitions for the Forum, including taking the concept to The Wall Street Journal in America, which now runs its own Global Food Forum conference every year,” Dore added.
Pratt said: “Ten years is a great milestone in the fast-moving world of Australian food. We’ve seen real progress in growing our food exports, food manufacturing investments and jobs. Congratulations to The Australian and The Wall Street Journal for backing such an influential annual event in Australia’s strategic business calendar.”
Dore said the agribusiness sector “rightly prides itself on being tough and robust” and added: “We hope the high-calibre participants in this year’s Forum will share innovative ways to further fortify the industry against the vicissitudes of the decade ahead.
“The Australian has led the national debate in agribusiness over the past 10 years with the Global Food Forum, and we remain committed to providing the finest coverage of the sector in print and increasingly online, where our digital expertise allows us to be ever more inventive in how we present our reporting for readers.
“We look forward to the next decade of The Australian and Visy’s Global Food Forum.”
Over the past 10 years the Forum’s reputation has grown to attract local and international speakers, panellists and delegates of the calibre of Hancock Agriculture founder, Gina Rinehart; Olam Global CEO, Sunny Verghese; Global Chairman & CEO of Cargill, David MacLennan; Impossible Foods CEO Nick Halla; and Alibaba Managing Director, Maggie Zhou.
This year’s full-day Global Food Forum 2022 will feature more than 30 local and international speakers and panellists including Visy executive chairman, Anthony Pratt; JBS Australia CEO Brent Eastwood; Coles Group CEO Steven Cain; Woolworths managing director of Greenstock Meats, Anna Speer; Mondelez International president Australia, NZ and Japan, Darren O’Brien; and National Farmers’ Federation president, Fiona Simson.
