Whether it’s a childhood jingle that you can still sing word for word, or a campaign that influences the way you work today, everyone has an ad that has really stuck with them.
Mediaweek has been asking the industry to take a trip down memory lane, to find out all about the ads that made us.
Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small – Smallzy’s Surgery host, Nova Network
‘Marge The Rains Are Here’ – McCain’s Super Juicy campaign
“One of the most iconic phrases of the last few decades, that has gone on to cement itself in the Aussie vernacular. If the testament of a successful campaign is to be memorable, put a brand top of mind, and drive a conversation, then I think Marge – and her (I’m assuming) husband – did both of those things.”
Amelia Morgan – creative strategist and account director, Awaken
‘Mr Soft’ – Trebor Spearmint Softmints
“This advert will forever be remembered as the advert that cast some kind of spell over us and had us all collectively doing this bizarre bounce walk every time we opened a pack of Spearmints even a decade after the ad first aired! Usually as we left from the tuck shop mid way between the bus and school gates.
“As creepy as it was, the visuals at the time were very memorable, and the jingle was really catchy – I still can’t open a pack of Softmints without having the theme tune ringing in my ears!”
Nick Grinberg – head of strategy, Next&Co
Franco Cozzo – Melbourne furniture stores ads
“Megalo, megalo, megalo! Franco was just iconic.
“His blend of Italian/English was so phonetically memorable and reminded me of how some of my extended family spoke.”
