2GB on a roll – Ben Fordham and Ray Hadley dominate market
Nova and smoothfm breakfast shows tumble, Wendy & Robbie climb
UP: 2GB +1.2
DOWN: Nova 96.9 -1.2
2GB 16.4% (15.2%)
Cume: 818,000 (+132,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 14.8% (13.2%)
Best Breakfast 17.9% (14.8%)
Another brilliant result for the station as more people flooded to AM radio for the lockdown latest. Ben Fordham has now posted the station’s second-best breakfast share in six years after Alan Jones hit 19.0% in this survey in 2018. Ray Hadley too has hit a new recent high with a morning share of 20.0%. The biggest mover at the station though was evening where the hosts are Brooke Corte and then John Stanley. The evening share lifted 4.8 to 25.7%. 2GB is now #2 40-54 on 9.9% in addition to dominating 55+.
KIIS 1065 8.0% (8.7%)
Cume: 1,080,000 (+42,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 9.7% (8.1%)
Best Breakfast 11.3% (9.9%)
KIIS now shares FM leadership overall with smoothfm. Kyle and Jackie O slipped again for the second successive survey. There is no chance of them being overtaken though, unless sister station WSFM manages to jump 2.0 in breakfast next survey. Otherwise it’s a long way back to the next best FM breakfast share with no one else over 5%. KIIS morning and afternoon went up, but drive and evening took a whack. KIIS remains the leader 18-24 and 25-39.
smoothfm 95.3 8.0% (8.4%)
Cume: 972,000 (+9,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 10.8% (8.1%)
Best Breakfast: 8.5% (6.2%)
A healthy daytime share stopped a bigger plunge here. Breakfast dropped again, this time down 1.5 to 4.5%, the lowest breakfast share in over six years. However it is the trend that most FM breakfast shows are sharing. smoothfm lost listeners young (18-24) and older (55-64).
WSFM 7.6% (8.1%)
Cume: 801,000 (+50,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 8.9% (7.1%)
Best Breakfast 9.1% (7.4%)
A 0.5 drop 10+ didn’t hurt the station’s ranking as it remains #3 FM while Jonesy and Amanda continue to rank #2 FM. Although the gap has opened between them and their nearest competitors. Breakfast was the only timeslot that didn’t drop this survey. WSFM remains the #1 choice for listeners 40-54 with a share of 11.1%.
Nova 96.9 4.7% (5.9%)
Cume: 976,000 (-28,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 7.7% (6.1%)
Best Breakfast 8.0% (6.4%)
Lockdown blues bigtime here with what look like the lowest station and breakfast shares since launch. When drops like this happen at stations it is often corrected in the next book, Nova will be hoping this is the case. Drive share hung on the best in the landslide with Kate, Tim and Joel on 7.2%, #4 out of the six commercial FM options. Cume dropped below 1m, but the small dip suggests there’s no need to panic.
104.9 Triple M 4.7% (4.7%)
Cume: 569,000 (+14,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 6.1% (4.7%)
Best Breakfast 6.0% (4.9%)
A flat survey is almost a win in this FM climate. Afternoon and drive are the only dayparts over a 5% share and breakfast slipped a little lower, down 0.1 to 4.6%. While listeners 65+ checked out, listening 25-39 lifted a little.
104.1 2Day FM 3.4% (2.6%)
Cume: 658,000 (+76,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 5.3% (3.3%
Best Breakfast 4.2% (2.5%)
The biggest FM improver is not much of a boast when your 10+ share is 3.4%. But we now know it could have been worse. Breakfast too moved in the right direction, but it still sits under a 3% share. Growing cume indicates some audience movement.
2UE 954 2.7% (2.7%)
Cume: 212,000 (+43,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 1.2% (0.6%)
Best Breakfast 1.1% (0.3%)
Some cume growth here is a good sign. A lift in breakfast saw share back over 2.0% for only the second time for the current format.
Sky Sports Radio 1.4% (0.9%)
Cume: 212,000 (+71,000)
2020 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 0.9% (0.5%)
Best Breakfast 1.4% (0.4%)
The station has climbed to its equal-best share in six years. Breakfast is up to 2.7% which is the best result in over six years. Good cume audience numbers too pushing above 200,000.
SEN 1170 0.7% (0.6%)
Cume: 112,000 (+39,000)
No share still over 1%, although afternoon with Jimmy Smith is getting close on 0.9%. Breakfast was steady on 0.4% and cume climbed higher for a second consecutive survey.
