Biggest rise: 2CH +1.5
Biggest fall: Nova 969 -2.1
2GB 13.4%
Alan Jones’ breakfast share was down 1.3 to 15.2%, which may help or hinder his discussions regarding contract renewal. (But probably neither!) Ray Hadley had the biggest drop at the station with share down from 17.9% to 15.0%. Both broadcasters of course remain easily the most-listened to in the Sydney market. Chris Smith and Ben Fordham were both up in their afternoon and drive slots while Steve Price’s evening audience dipped a little to 15.0% as they get used to evenings without Andrew Bolt at the start of Price’s program.
smoothfm 95.3 9.7%
Strong result to start the year that keeps the FM station #1 in the market. Biggest daypart mover was evening where Cameron Daddo saw his share climb from 8.4% to 10.7%. Breakfast with Bogart Torelli and Glenn Daniel also had a survey to remember with share up to 8.5% (+1.4) which is their second best-ever result. Byron Webb now hosts Sydney’s #1 drive show with a winning share of 10.2%. The station’s sweet spot is 25-39 where share lifted 2.0 to 13.1% where it trails KIIS.
WSFM 8.8%
Despite a drop in breakfast where Jonesy and Amanda dipped from 9.0% to 8.2%, the station remains #2 FM with 10+ share up 0.1 to 8.8%. Afternoon and evening were the big movers – both up 1.3 with the former on 10.2% and the latter on 7.2%.
KIIS 106.5 7.7%
The station remains #1 25-39 and Kyle and Jackie O are still #1 FM breakfast. And despite their show running until 10.30pm on many days, shares post 9am can’t replicate the station’s breakfast success. Drive with Will and Woody was down 1.5 to 6.9%. Station share has only been under 8% five times in the last 25 surveys and ARN will hope it doesn’t happen again this year after it did it twice in 2018.
Nova 969 6.5%
After a record year for breakfast hosts Fitzy and Wippa, 2019 has started with a dip of 2.0 to 6.4%, which is their equal lowest share since survey two in 2016. That survey was also the station’s lowest in the past three years when it did a 5.9%. Drive with Kate, Tim and Marty didn’t dazzle with share down 4.3 to 8.3%, although it remains #2 FM drive behind smoothfm.
104.1 2Day FM 5.9%
This is the station’s best result in over three years although it wasn’t driven by a lift in breakfast. The new Grant, Ed and Ash combo actually dropped, albeit only just, down 0.2 to 4.4%. The improvements came in afternoon and drive thanks to Tommy and Carrie and Hughesy and Kate plus evening where share was off the floor to 6.0%, pushing the station ahead of Nova.
104.9 Triple M 4.6%
Moonman’s first survey has given the breakfast show a starting point – 4.7% – ranking it #5 FM. That didn’t help the station with share down in morning and afternoon while drive with Kennedy Molloy was steady on 6.6%.
2CH 1170 4.5%
Strong result with all dayparts up led by breakfast with share for Indira and Trevor up 1.6 to 4.1%. Morning, afternoon and drive where also up over 1.0 each and evening climbed 2.4 to 4.4%. Key demos did well too – 55-64 up 3.8 to 5.9% and 65+ up 2.1 to 12.0%.
Sky Sports Radio 0.7%
Breakfast was steady with a 0.7% share while weekends dipped 0.4 to 1.0%.
Macquarie Sports Radio 0.6%
Another tough survey for the still new brand. Any audiences attracted by the cricket don’t seem to have stayed on with share down 0.5 to 0.6%. Breakfast halved its share from 1.2 to 0.6%.
