Travel Guides is back to bring viewers more laughs and more scenic destinations for a new season, premiering Wednesday, April 19, at 7.30 pm on Nine and 9Now.
The TV Week Logie Award-winning show will feature more overseas adventures and the return of the show’s famous travel critics: the budget-hunting Fren family from Newcastle, fun-loving Matt and Brett, jet setters Kevin and Janetta, and best mates Kev, Dorian and Teng.
This season, while cowgirl Mel takes time off to be with her baby, twin sister Stack is joined by their younger brother, Josh.
Mediaweek caught up with Stack and Josh about packing their bags and heading off on adventures togather.
Stack – You’ve been all over the world with Mel, what’s it been like for you having Josh jump on board?
Stack: It’s been great to have Josh on the world tour. I’m happy that he got to have a taste of what Mel and I have been doing for the past few years. It’s different without Mel, but also great spending time with my little bro.
Josh – You’ve never been overseas before, what made you say ‘yes’ to joining Travel Guides?
Josh: I said yes to Travel Guides because I wanted to see the world and spend time with my sister that I would not normally be able to. And who wouldn’t?! What an opportunity!!!
How did you find travelling with each other? Do you two often see eye to eye about things, or were there more differences of opinion?
Stack: Travelling with Josh is definitely different from travelling with Mel. Mel and I have this weird twin bond where we can look at each other or say half of a sentence and the other can finish it off. This is the most time Josh and I have ever spent together, so it’s been awesome getting to know each other’s little quirks better.
Josh: Stack and I travel well together. I think we see eye to eye on most things. We are both laid back and easygoing.
Stack: Yes, we see eye to eye most of the time, except when I’m giving directions or singing – both Josh and Mel seem to struggle with those!
What are the biggest things you think about when you’re deciding how to rate a destination?
Josh: A big part of rating a destination for me is the view, how busy or quiet it is, what activities we get up to and how the people treat us – especially for me, with every experience pretty much being a new one!
Stack: And the Food! We love a great meal!
What was the funniest or quirkiest thing you guys saw on your travels for this season?
Stack: One of the quirkiest this year would be the hobby horse where we rode broom horses around a city.
Josh: Hundred percent agree! The hobby horse in Helsinki was so funny and a bit weird to a country boy. I can’t believe people really do it as a sport!
What would your dream destinations be?
Josh: Canada, I’d love to go snowboarding over there. Also, Sweden and Norway because I think it would be really cool to see the landscape and wildlife over there.
Stack: I would love to see Yellowstone National Park. I love the mountains and would love to see the beautiful lakes and wildlife, and of course enjoy the cowboy way of life.
