Aussie sporting legends will battle it out for their favourite charities on a special edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, this Thursday, May 13, at 7.30pm on Channel Nine, hosted by Eddie McGuire.
The lineup includes AFLW and All-Australian player Tayla Harris, five-time Commonwealth Games netballer and Collingwood Magpies player, English international Geva Mentor, and Australian basketball legend and Hall of Famer, Andrew Gaze.
Two-time premiership and Brownlow Medal winner Gary Ablett Jr joins the hot seat alongside retired NRL superstar and Grand Final winner, Billy Slater.
Olympic freestyle gold medallist Mack Horton will also be in the swim for the cash, along with the first Australian woman to win a medal at both the Winter and Summer Paralympics, Jess Gallagher.
Host Eddie McGuire said: “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has been great to bring back, and it is a huge honour to be able to raise money for charities alongside these Australian sporting heroes this week.”
A total of $82,785,000 has been won on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Millionaire Hot Seat over the past 22 years.
Millionaire Hot Seat left its production location in Melbourne in late 2020 amid the Covid-19 outbreak and temporarily filmed on the Gold Coast. The season that aired in January of 2021 were the first since the show returned to Melbourne. As well as moving state, the new socially distanced episodes were filmed without a studio audience and under strict Covid safe conditions to ensure that the cast and crew are kept safe.
At the time Eddie McGuire said that he was looking forward to getting back to the show and giving away cash prizes after a tough year last year.
“Much like with the AFL, it was great for Hot Seat to feel the hospitality of Queensland last year,” he said. “We are so thankful for their vital support. I am very excited to bring Millionaire Hot Seat back to its spiritual home in Melbourne. 2020 was an extremely challenging year for so many and it is fantastic to be back giving people the opportunity to win huge cash prizes.”
