Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continues to delight fans for a second week
This weekend, the Australian box office made $14,428,780, down 19% from last week’s $17,853,502.
It was the second weekend for Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with comic fans still swinging into cinemas to watch the animations. For its second week, the film brought in $6.37 million nationally (down 24%) and $164.5 million globally.
The film features an all-star cast of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac.
Coming in second for its third week in cinemas was Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The live-action remake of the 1989 film has mesmerised fans across the country, bringing in $3 million, down 24%.
For its fourth week at the Box Office, Universal’s Fast X, brought in almost $1.2 million. The Vin Diesel-led film is the tenth instalment to the Fast and Furious franchise and stars a stellar line-up including the aforementioned Diesel alongside Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena and Jason Momoa, to name a few. Down 27%.
Once again and for its sixth week at the cinema, Walt Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 came in at number four. The Marvel blockbuster starring Chris Pratt recorded just over $1 million at the Australian box office, down 16% from last week.
Coming in fifth was Walt Disney’s The Boogeyman. The Stephen King adaptation grossed just over $530,000, down 14%. The supernatural horror film was directed by Rob Savage and stars Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair and Marin Ireland.
Falling out of the top five this weekend was Sony’s John Farnham: Finding the Voice, Transmissions’ The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (debut), Mindblowing’s Maurh (debut), Signal Pictures’ The Roundup: No Way Out and Universal’s The Super Mario Bros Movie.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales (Moore), who is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. The film grossed $6,376,323, averaging $11,226 over 568 screens.
#2 The Little Mermaid – $3,093,822
The Little Mermaid follows Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. Longing to find out more about the world beyond the sea, Ariel visits the surface and falls for the dashing Prince Eric. The film features Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as evil sea witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle with the lead of Ariel played by Halle Bailey. The film grossed $3,093,822 averaging $6,845 over 452 screens.
#3 Fast X – $1,192,289
Fast X follows Dom Toretto as he confronts the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever. The film grossed $1,192,289, averaging $3,785 over 315 screens.
#4 Guardians of the Galaxy 3 – $1,097,239
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 grossed $1,097,239, averaging $3,797 over 289 screens for its sixth weekend. The emotional third instalment follows Peter Quill (Pratt), who once again rallies his team to defend the universe and stars Chukwudi Iwuji, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Pom Klementieff, alongside Pratt.
#5 The Boogeyman – $537,224
High school student Sadie Harper (Thatcher) and her younger sister, Sawyer (Blair), are still reeling from the recent death of their mother; however, they are not getting much support from their father, Will (Messina), a therapist who is dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims. The film grossed $537,224, averaging $2,431 over 221 screens for its second week in cinemas.
