Sky News Australia has ramped up its live political and national affairs coverage following yesterday’s announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison of a 21 May Federal Election date.
As the official Federal Election campaign gets underway and Australians get set to decide who will lead the country, Sky News and its team of award-winning political journalists, commentators and anchors will bring viewers every step, misstep, and triumph from the six-week campaign trail across multiple platforms and channels, live 24/7: Sky News Channel 600; Sky News Election 2022 Channel 603 to catch up on the day’s election news, (previously Sky News Extra) and SkyNews.com.au.
From now until 21 May the Sky News Election 2022 team led by chief news anchor Kieran Gilbert, political editor Andrew Clennell, political reporters Laura Jayes, Tom Connell, Peter Stefanovic, Ashleigh Gillon, and business editor Ross Greenwood, together with Sky’s political commentators including Peta Credlin, Paul Murray, Andrew Bolt, Chris Kenny, Rita Panahi, and Sharri Markson will bring viewers live rolling coverage and analysis of every key press conference, campaign and policy announcement.
Across the campaign experienced political reporter Tom Connell will become chief election analyst breaking down the data to provide viewers with a deeper understanding of the election results.
Throughout the campaign period, leaders in key and marginal electorates will face voter questions in a series of live televised debates, giving Sky News viewers access to the faces and policies that matter most in the leadup to polling day.
The Sky News Marginal Seat Debates will see candidates face off in front of a live audience. The first debate will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in late April as Wentworth candidates Allegra Spender and Dave Sharma go head-to-head to swing public opinion.
Paul Murray will continue his Paul Murray Live: Pub Test series, taking politics to the people live from pub venues across the country. Local candidates will be tested on their policies as they take questions from the audience.
The first Pub Test for the 2022 series aired last month and featured Prime Minister Scott Morrison on the NSW Central Coast. The second was held in the electorate of Macquarie, Australia’s most marginal seat between Susan Templeman (Labor MP) and Sarah Richards (Liberal) in Springwood last Wednesday.
Coming up, the third Paul Murray Live Pub Test: The Mavericks will take place in southeast Queensland on April 19 at 8pm AEST and will feature Pauline Hanson, Clive Palmer, Campbell Newman, and Bob Katter.
Sky News Australia also launches ‘Election 2022’ – a dedicated 24×7 live channel with major announcements, news-making interviews, and press conferences live. ‘Election 2022’ is available to all Australians on SkyNews.com.au, Foxtel, and Flash.
Then on Saturday 21 May as Australians head to the polls, Sky News coverage and analysis of election day will be led by chief news anchor Kieran Gilbert and a panel of experts including Andrew Clennell and Peta Credlin.
