ARN to cut ties with traffic reporter Vic Lorusso

Sources tell Mediaweek the broadcaster will be bringing the role in-house.

The Australian Radio Network (ARN) is set to end its contract with traffic report provider gtn and, in turn, its traffic reporter-slash-CEO, Vic Lorusso, instead bringing the function in-house.

Instead, the broadcaster will move its traffic reporting in-house, likely handled by either an on-air announcer or newsreader.

If the role is absorbed into the newsroom, the move would see ARN mirror Nova Entertainment's model, which already runs its traffic reporting in-house.

The gtn contract

gtn reportedly had a contract worth more than $10 million with ARN to deliver traffic reports and sell advertising on the network's stations.

Neither ARN nor gtn has issued an official statement on the change, and both parties have been contacted for comment.

The development comes after Lorusso was appointed Global Chief Executive of gtn late last year, taking on responsibility for the business across four countries.

Founded in Australia in 1997, gtn delivers traffic, weather, news, fuel and entertainment content to more than 91 million people each week across its four markets.
