Journalist creates podcast after son loses life savings

Freelance journalist and financial editor, Alex Brooks took matters into her own hands after failing to gain interest from the media about her son’s story and has launched her own podcast, Daylight Robbery.

Brooks’ 23-year-old son, Louis, bought his first apartment for $365,000 last year, but lost $109,350 transferring money for settlement to a fake Property Exchange Australia (PEXA) bank account that his bank not only enabled, but now charges him an extra $600 a month interest on.

After trying to drum up interest from the media in a bid to warn others about what had happened, Brooks realised there were similar stories from all over Australia just like her son’s – but she couldn’t get any interest.

She has now found and interviewed 35 other victims of a similar crime and has now released her first podcast in a series highlighting the effects of financial crime in Australia.
