Optus Sport has announced it will air the UEFA Women’s Euro semi-final and final matches for free as the tournament comes to an end next week.
Australian football fans can now catch all the action, live and on-demand, on the Optus Sport app as the semis kick off at 5am on Wednesday and Thursday morning before the final two teams compete to be crowned football’s 2022 European Champions early on Monday, August 1.
With over 500,000 tickets sold before the tournament kicked off in early July, attendance records were broken early, with England’s opening match against Austria the highest ever attended for the European final’s tournament.
The excitement around watching some of the world’s best players duel it out for this year’s EURO trophy isn’t only confined to the stadium crowds. The tournament momentum is also translating strongly in Australia, with viewership on Optus Sport surpassing some of the biggest matches from the Barclays Women’s Super League – a trend set to continue now the tournament has progressed from group stage into the finals.
With interest and engagement in women’s football at record levels and less than one year to go until the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is hosted on home soil in Australia and New Zealand, the fever around the sport will no doubt continue to grow.
